Learning Academy is designed to support students who learn in different ways or at a different pace from others in small group learning environments. Â Learning Academy serves students in grades 1-8 in extended day and summer programs that are designed to build skills in reading, math, and writing, as well as help students, develop better organizational and social skills. Â
Offered through Itasca Area Community Education at ISD 316-Greenway, ISD 317-Deer River, ISD 318-Grand Rapids, and Bigfork, and ISD 319-Nashwauk/Keewatin.Â
MN Licensed Teachers use alternative instructional methods, individualized for each student:Â
- Hands-on Activities
- Service-learning
- Integrate technology
- Experiential or project-based
- Small groupsÂ
Academic services strive to:
- Increase critical reading skills, strategies, and comprehension.
- Build basic skill areas: math, science, reading, writing, and other academic areas.
- Encourage reading for enjoyment.
- Study and test-taking skills.Â
Social/Emotional services can focus on:
- Responsible decision making
- Promoting social/civic responsibility
- Expressing and managing emotions effectively
- Building positive peer relationships
